Visit Garfield Park Conservatory

Garfield Park Conservatory features stunning flowers and greenery that you’ve probably never seen before. Eight separate indoor gardens feature exotic and tropical plants, and a water lily pond provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. To attend, you simply make a reservation, and enjoy a great day of admiring the natural beauty for free.

Walk on the 606

If you’ve ever been to New York City, you might’ve walked the High Line. Chicago has its own version, the 606 trail. Spanning over two and a half miles through the city, this trail sits on an old elevated rail line. This favorite spot for runners, walkers, and bikers features art exhibits and landscape designs. Also called the Bloomingdale Trail, this path is open from 6 am to 11 pm every day. Make sure to stop at the Exelon Observatory during your visit and see spectacular views of the city and enjoy astronomy nights.

Explore Lincoln Park Zoo

The Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the last free zoos in the country. It is also one of the most established zoos in the U.S. The zoo includes 35 acres filled with exotic animals and beautifully landscaped gardens. The Zoo is open year-round and often hosts seasonal events for the public. While the zoo is free, donations are encouraged in order to support their efforts and keep the experience free.

Visit a museum on a free day

Chicago is home to many different types of museums. Some are free and others offer free days for Illinois residents or selected groups. A few local favorite free museums include the Smart Museum of Art, the Clark House Museum, and the Design Museum of Chicago.
